The first player is the mayor, whose job is to run and develop the town. In New Leaf, the player lives in a town consisting of between 4-10 animal villagers. All newly published copies of New Leaf contain the Welcome amiibo update pre-installed, which is signified by a banner under the logo on the front cover of the case.
